On Thursday, July 5, local singer and actress Salshabilla Adriani took her YouTube account to drop a collaboration with Korean soloist McKay. The collaboration is a cover of Indonesian song “Berharap Tak Berpisah” by Reza Artamevia.
“Berharap Tak Berpisah” is a popular Indonesian hit track by Reza Artamevia. Released in 2002, many local singers have recycled the track. Furthermore, the song talks about how the singer wants to maintain her relationship despite having broken up.
The cover release followed a quick teaser posted on the K-Pop Star alumni’s Twitter account. Meanwhile, the video was created on his recent visit to Jakarta, attending the University of Indonesia’s Korean Culture Day. Said event took place on Saturday, June 30.

McKay has garnered positive comments for his cover, including how he sounds like a native Indonesian speaker. This is not his first time covering Indonesian pop tracks, as he has also gained attention for covering Jaz’ “>Dari Mata” and “>Cukup Tau” by Rizky Febian.
McKay made his debut in survival show K-Pop Star Season 2 (2012) as part of trio Racoon Boys. In 2015, he embarked on his solo career through single track “Angel 2 Me” featuring singer-songwriter Jeff Bernat. On the same year, he released his second single “Month of June“. In 2017, the singer released “You Will Never Know” in both Korean and English.
