Gilchrist: Cibo Leads Long List Of Restaurants Making Changes

After nearly 20 years of trying all types of food in the name of work, Calgary Herald food columnist John Gilchrist is ready to savour retirement.

Today marks his last column covering the city’s burgeoning food scene and, while we will miss his insightful reporting on chefs and owners trying to carve out a niche in a competitive industry, we understand his desire to spend more time with his wife in their own kitchen. That’s not to say we won’t hear from John again; hopefully, he’ll contribute now and again when the fancy strikes.

He leaves incredibly big shoes to fill but we are excited about the possibilities moving forward. We’re taking a break for the summer but starting Sept. 8, noted culinary writer Elizabeth Chorney-Booth will join the fold. Co-author of the two most recent versions of The Best of Bridge cookbook, she is well-known to many in the business and will bring her own style to her column.

We wish John all the best and hope you’ll follow Elizabeth as she explores what’s new and innovative in Calgary dining scene.
