Alabama football polished off a productive spring, developing depth in areas of need and fortifying an already stacked roster with several incoming freshmen who should be able to make immediate contributions for the 2019 Crimson Tide.
With spring practices finished, the dog days of summer are soon to set in, bringing with it the long night of the college football offseason. The post-spring practice college football world is dark and full of terrors; we’re still over three months away from the beginning of the season.
The offseason has already had a few interesting twists and turns, even in Tuscaloosa with Nick Saban’s hip surgery. The 67-year-old coach was out of work for a whole two days before he was back prowling around the athletic facilities.
Rumors of him slowing down or eyeing the sunset of his career were greatly exaggerated. He’s as motivated as ever – maybe even more so following the bitter ending to what had been one of the best seasons in program – and college football – history up until the final game.
Alabama’s 44-16 loss to Clemson has continued to dominate the headlines now four months after the fact. It was no doubt a point of motivation Saban used this spring as his talented roster looks to refocus and avoid another dud on the national stage.
